5 Early Signs of Termites in Your House

0

You don’t have to live in Miami, the most infested city in the world, to know that termites are a serious problem. By the time you notice that your house has a problem, it could be too late to remove them. The damage is already done.

That’s why it’s so important to know the early warning signs of termites in houses. Here are 5 that you should keep your eyes peeled for, so that you can avoid serious property damage.

1. Watch Out for Mud Tubes

Mud tubes are one of the most common signs of a major termite infestation. These tubes form due to subterranean termites, and help keep the bugs hydrated as they travel from their colony to your home. They can appear near the foundation, baseboards, or in the cracks and crevices of the house.

2. Damage to the Paint on Your Walls

Termites, by their very nature, burrow into your walls and create holes or tunnels to travel and eat. Most of the time, this doesn’t break through your paint job or wallpaper. However, if you see:

  • Bubbling paint on the walls
  • Discolored or peeling wallpaper
  • Pinholes in the wall
  • Sunken lines in the wall

It could be one of the earliest termite signs you’ll get.

3. Discarded Wings and Carapaces of House Termites

Naturally, if you have loads of house termites making their nest in your home, you’ll find physical evidence of them living there soon enough. Termites tend to swarm in the spring, so you may come across a group of them reproducing. Failing that, you might see wings, carapaces, and droppings in various areas around your house.

If you see these in your Cali, don’t hesitate to call a California pest control. If you wait, the cost could grow exponentially.

4. Hollow or Buckling Wooden Structures

The worst signs of termites in houses are the hollow, buckling wooden structures that occur in severe infestations. This occurs because the termites have eaten through enough of the wood to compromise its structural integrity. If this happens, and is allowed to progress far enough, it could cause the entire house to collapse.

Don’t let things advance that far. When you encounter hollow patches of wood in what should be solid, call pest control right away.

5. Nonstop Clicking Noises

Nothing annoys people more than clicking, banging noises that have no clear source and won’t go away no matter what you do. If you’ve checked and triple-checked everywhere in your home and you can’t find the source, it could be a sign of a termite infestation.

In addition to chewing through your walls, termites bang their heads into the walls to communicate and signal for food or danger.
