4 Signs It’s Time for Transmission Replacement

0

As a vehicle owner, there are lots of things you need to do to make sure your car keeps running smoothly and continues to work for as long as possible. You’ll need to have it serviced regularly, follow the advice in your owner’s manual, and look out for telltale signs that something could be amiss with your vehicle.

Transmission replacement is something that you should be doing regularly, but how often will depend on the type of car you have and how you use it. However, sometimes, you’ll notice things that will alert you to the fact that you need to replace the transmission fluid ASAP. Read on to find out what these are.

1. Check Engine Light Is On

When your check engine light is on, you can be sure there’s something going on under your hood that you need to get checked out. This won’t necessarily be your transmission, but there’s every chance that it is.

If you notice your check engine symbol is lit up, this isn’t something you should ignore, regardless of whether it’s your transmission or not. Try to get it to your local mechanic as soon as you can.

2. Liquid Leaking from Your Vehicle

When you notice liquid leaking from the undercarriage of your car, this could be caused by many different things. But none of them are going to be good.

If you want to determine the cause of your leak, there are some things you can check. If it smells like burning rubber, this is probably your transmission fluid. Another way is to look at the color, if it is red or crimson, it’s your transmission is almost definitely the source.

3. Delayed Shifts or Missing Gears

Delayed shifts or missing gears are some of the most common signs something is wrong with your transmission. Usually, if you notice these signs, it means your car is low in transmission fluid. When this continues for long enough, it can cause your car to become damaged or to overheat.

4. Unusual Noises

If your car is on the older side, it’s possible that it’s not unusual for it to make noises on occasion. However, if your car isn’t old, or if it’s making new or unusual noises, this could mean your transmission has some issues.

Without running a test, there’s no definitive way of telling what exactly is the matter. It could be something minor, or it could mean your transmission needs complete replacement. If this is the case, it’s worth researching where you can find transmission parts distributors as this can keep your transmission replacement cost lower.

Are You in Need of Transmission Replacement?

If you notice any of the above signs, you may be in need of transmission replacement and it’s important to get your car checked out as soon as possible. If you don’t you could end up damaging your car or even injuring yourself or others. If you’re wondering “is it worth replacing a transmission?” in these cases the answer is yes.
