The space force is the newest branch of the United States military. Despite a lot of commentary and confusion in the media, the space force is a real military branch.
It’s brand new, though, getting established only a few short years ago. Most people know little to nothing about the space force, its mission, and its function. We’re going to talk about the space force basics today, covering what this military branch intends to do.
Let’s get started.
What Is The Goal of The Space Force?
The space force got a lot of press surrounding comments by former President Donald Trump, leading to a bulk of the confusion about the military branch. Political ideologies might have skewed an objective look at what this force might do for the country.
The primary goal of the space force is to organize and distribute protective resources in space. A key aspect of that is military defense. Their current objectives are to build and employ military space systems and develop military doctrines for engagements in space.
There aren’t any active wars or battles in space, however. Unlike the Army or the Air Force, the space force doesn’t have any particular application at this time. That said, it’s reasonable to think that the future will hold advanced technology that allows us to use space as a battlefield if necessary.
Having a system in place to organize and employ technology or individuals in space could be useful when the time comes.
Non-Military Applications
Currently, a lot of the technology we use and the information that we distribute move through space. GPS technology and military satellites work hand-in-hand.
Those devices filtrate massive amounts of sensitive information and play enormous roles in the lives of all Americans. So, having a branch dedicated to protecting and enhancing GPS technology, military satellites, and everything in between is essential.
Military space strategists can help to protect our technology now and create infrastructure to advance the space force in a way that will protect the country from physical threats in the future.
For now, GPS technology and coding are the focus for protecting data that impacts millions of human lives. You can read more about this here.
Framing The Idea of a Space Force
In light of the whirlwind of 2020 and 2021, it’s easy to see why the space force didn’t take the spotlight for very long. It’s also easy to see why people may not have taken the idea seriously.
That said, at some point in the future, space will be a battleground and a place with a lot more general activity. All nations with the ability will make some move into space to protect their citizens and their interests.
