Round VIII of Pietro’s Fight Night vs. DMD

Robb Sabbagh News proudly announces the next round of the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). The 2020 edition of Pietro’s Fight Night vs. DMD is Round VIII and scheduled on [DATE].

Pietro’s Fight is a non-profit that raises awareness of DMD and money to pay for research, development, and clinical trials to effectively treat and find a cure for DMD. DMD is a genetic disorder the primarily affects young boys starting at about age 4. It causes rapid muscle loss in the thighs and pelvis and generally leads to decreased mobility as the body loses muscle tissue. The arms and other body parts eventually become affected. By age 12, many no longer can walk, and there is no available cure. Some victims even have difficulty breathing. Current treatments generally focus on aiding mobility with braces, physical therapy, and surgery.

The genetic disorder affects about six per every 100,000 males between ages 4 and 25. It even affects about one in every 10,000 up to age 45, researchers at the Deerfield Institute say. In a city as populated as New York City, that means lots of local youth are suffering the effects of DMD and are anxious for a cure.
