Types of cranes

Derek or stationary cranes

Stationary cranes comprise a boom, a mast, and a bull wheel. The bull wheel is what the boom rotates about on a vertical axis. These cranes can either be operated by electricity, diesel, or a hybrid feature using both diesel and electricity to function.

Mobile cranes

Mobile cranes are cranes placed on mobile units. These mobiles can be either wheel type like truck-mounted, or they can be crawler type. Truck-mounted cranes can move fast while crawler-mounted trains are slow in movement. Crawler cranes are used for driving on rough surface regions where the truck cranes can suffer severe damages. These cranes are responsible for transporting loads over short distances.

Gantry or overhead cranes

These cranes are mainly used when three-way mobility is needed. These require lots of his area and are free from floor obstruction. These cranes are mostly used in the case of the foundry, storage yards, steel plans, and many other types of industrial works. The gantry cranes mainly contained two main parts: the crab and the bridge. The overhead crane bridge has two main girders, which are fixed at the ends to end carriages. The end carriages are supported on tram wheels and can move on the gantry rail. The crab has the hoisting placed on a frame. The frame is then placed on another set of wheels and can travel across the girder.

Traveler cranes

Traveler trains have crabs that move on girdles and are supported on legs instead of overhead gantry trucks. The legs can move on tracks laid on the floor.

Tower cranes

These cranes are direct cranes that have been placed on a steel tower. Tower cranes are most often used for industrial and residential high-rise buildings. The function of a tower crane is to assemble the industrial plants. The tower crane has a slewing platform, carriage, the tower with operators’ cabin and jibs.
