What Is a High EMF Reading? The Ultimate Guide

0

While more research is necessary to draw clear conclusions, we have reason to believe that EMF exposure could cause notable health issues. Rather than waiting for more information, it makes sense to take precautions based on these early studies.

EMF (or electromagnetic fields) can radiate from all sorts of household appliances including microwaves, computers, and even your cellphone. How can you make sure that you’re not exposed to a dangerous amount?

Performing an at-home EMF reading is a good place to start. The question is, how is EMF radiation measured, and how much EMF is too much?

Read on to learn more about EMF detectors and concerning levels of EMF exposure.

How Do You Measure EMF Radiation?

First, let’s take a quick look at how you can measure EMF radiation. EMF is invisible, so you can’t detect EMF exposure without having the proper tools.

The answer is quite simple. All you need is to install an EMF meter in your home that will measure EMF on a regular basis and alert you to high levels.

How Much EMF Is Too Much?

The truth is that it would be difficult to get your EMF levels to zero. In order to do so, you’d have to forgo the technology that we use on a day-to-day basis. The goal, then, is not to reduce EMF levels to zero, but to keep them from exceeding potentially dangerous levels.

When measuring EMF levels, there are three categories that you’ll want to observe. These categories include magnetic, electric, and radiofrequency levels of radiation.

Anything below 1 mG of magnetic radiation is considered safe. Most homeowners will find that their magnetic radiation levels range between 0.4 mG and 1 mG.

Electric radiation is understudied, but it’s still worth monitoring electric levels. If your electric levels hit 10 V/m or less, you can consider this safe. However, some European countries do consider a reading above 10 V/m to be normal.

Some consider radiofrequency radiation more hazardous than magnetic and electric radiation. Once again, we will need more studies to understand the exact threats posed by radiofrequency. That said, you will still want to monitor these levels, as they are pervasive and stem from everything from our WiFi routers to our cellphones.

How much radiofrequency radiation is too much? Anything above 1 mW/m². If you’re reading at levels higher than this, you will want to take measures to reduce your EMF exposure in your home.

Stay Protected at Home With an EMF Reading

EMF exposure is inevitable in the modern age. However, it is important that we stay within the range of normal EMF levels. Performing an EMF reading at home is a great way to protect yourself from the dangers of EMF radiation by reducing potential exposure.

Some technology creates new hazards while others help us to stay protected. Take a look at our technology content to learn more about the latest tech news and how our relationship to technology evolves.
